Getting Off With Viv Conway: Is a Panty Vibrator All It’s Cracked Up to Be? I Investigated, Of Course

Girls Get Off Co-Founder Viv Conway comes to you from the sex toy trenches in Getting Off, where no topic is off the table, no chat is taboo and everything is just a little unhinged. This week, Viv does some top-tier investigative work around panty vibrators – are they worth it? Do they work? And can people… you know… HEAR them!?

Warning: it’s adults-only chat ahead!

Let’s get this out of the way early: this is not me standing here with a megaphone yelling “BUY OUR NEW TOY.”

But between you and me, queens, we (aka. Girls Get Off) just dropped a couple’s toy called We Get Off and holy heck, it’s good, but also extremely relevant to the plot of this column.

This V-day, we thought, why not drop a cheeky two-for-one in the form of a couples box. It includes a panty vibrator and a vibrating cock ring, both remote-controlled and hotter than hell, and if you’re like, “if you’re not trying to sell me this, why are you telling me?” I hear you, and the answer is, because after we released this vibey lil duo, we got inundated with messages:

“How does the panty vibe work?”

“Is it quiet enough to wear in public?”

“Will it actually make me feel good? Or just naughty?”

And I thought, what better place to answer your questions than here, because even if you’re not buying GGO’s panty vibe, you might be buying a different one, and well, the same questions might need answering.

So, first things first: what the hell is a panty vibe? Usually, I would say “your new best friend”, but that’s not super helpful, so let me put my handy-to-know hat on.

Basically, it’s a two-piece vibrator that sits in your underwear. It’s small enough to slip into your panties, big enough to cause quite the tingles, and unless specified, it’s external-only. The two pieces include the vibrating unit that sits inside the underwear against your body, and a small magnet that sits on the outside to keep everything securely in place.

For those of you who like to live a little dangerously (I see you), or just want to spice up date night, it’s a perfect little sidekick, and the GGO version is remote-controlled, meaning your boo can turn the vibes up or down from up to six metres away while you sit there pretending you’re totally fine. Other panty vibes can sync to apps, which is ideal for long-distance lovers or anyone into a bit of tech-assisted teasing.

Now, the question that I’ve been asked countless times: are they quiet enough to wear in public?

I can’t speak for all panty vibes, but the GGO panty vibe definitely is. We’re big on housemate-approved vibes and wanted to make sure that if you’re dabbling in We Get Off in not-so–We Get Off–friendly places, you’ll actually get away with it. Unforch, not all panty vibes are “intimate dinner” friendly, so I always recommend testing yours at home first, in a quiet room, maybe with your lover sitting next to you, just to see how discreet it really is.

As for anyone wondering about the legal side of things: panty vibes are totally legal in NZ and Australia as long as they’re for your own use. All I’d say is be respectful. Only you and your partner consented to be part of public playtime, and others might not appreciate the squirming beside them while they’re trying to eat dinner.

My top tip for anyone dabbling in the big wide world with a panty vibe iis grab yourself some comfortable undies with a snug fit. They make all the difference.

Finally, the big one: will it actually make you feel good, or will it just make you feel like a girl with a naughty little secret?

I’ll level with you, Jo and I wouldn’t release a toy that isn’t designed to make you feel good. That would be so off-brand. But in the essence of different strokes for different folks, a good panty vibrator can be incredibly stimulating because it targets external nerves with quiet, focused feedback. Whether it’s “good” or not really comes down to personal preference.

Some people love the constant buzz, others prefer it for solo time or partnered play at home.

I could go on and on all day and I probably will, so if you’ve got more burning questions, flick us a DM on Instagram, we’re always down for a Q&A. Otherwise, happy vibing, queen!
