Little Things That’ll Help You Have a Wonderful Valentine’s Day Because It’s ALL ABOUT YOU

Valentine’s Day conjures up a lot of different emotions. If you’re single and not happy about it, it can be the worst day of the year (BEEN THERE). If you’re single and DGAF, it’s a great time to celebrate Galentine’s Day instead or simply ignore the whole shit show.

If you’re just here for a good time, it’s an opportunity to be a little sexy, or if you’re in a loving, committed relationship, the idea is to shower your significant other with love, gifts and kindness, but it’s more likely you’ll get a peck on the cheek in between getting dinner on the table and the kids off to cricket practice.

However you feel, Valentine’s Day should instead be about self-love. This Sunday, do whatever you need to do to feel happy, strong, confident and loved – and here we have a little list of treats you can indulge yourself with, no matter what your plans.

Because there is nothing sexier than self-care!

A DIY Manicure That Actually Doesn’t Look Rubbish

Stay with me here… if you’re anything like me (impatient and shit with a nail brush) then at-home nails is usually an absolutely rubbish idea. Don’t ask me why, but your nails actually turn out as good as what you’d get at the salon with Kester Black – a Kiwi company that are as awesome for what they do behind the scenes as their products. My favourite is their Creature Comforts shade – a dark foundation colour that lengthens your fingers (I have the smallest hands in the world) and stays put. Like, actually stays put. There’s 50 breathable shades in the range – select your favourite and get painting.

Wine – Because, Wine

VillaMaria SingleVineyard Marlborough Attorney Organic PinotNoir 2013

If there’s ever a night to indulge in a good red, it’s February 14. You’re always spoilt for choice when you’re selecting a New Zealand red, hell I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad one (well, apart from the time I left a quarter of a bottle in the sun for a week and then tried to drink it, but that’s obviously on me). Our pick for V-Day 2021 however has to be the Villa Maria The Attorney Pinot Noir. You’ll know Villa for their dependable everyday ranges, but damn, their fine and premium wine selection is incredible and well worth a taste. With the usual pinot noir notes accompanied by cassis and fresh blackberries, it’s a wine that’s serious but playful, intense but still light. So, the qualities of a perfect partner then? How convenient.

Switch On For A Good Time

Ok, it wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without a little romance – but who said it had to come from someone else? Channel Carrie with a bit of self love with the classic Rabbit. Featuring not one but two motors, the powerful vibrations and curved shaft provide dual stimulation for an intense G-spot massage. Team this with the three delicious speeds in the long, thick, flexible ears for a sensational blended arousal. Oh and did we mention it’s also whisper-quiet, waterproof and USB rechargeable?!

If you’re apart from a partner for whatever reason (thanks, Covid) the latest trend in distance romance are toys that can be controlled via apps – yup, your lover can get you where you need to be from anywhere in the world (thank you, technology!). Try out something like this Love Egg that can be used solo or with a partner, and is controlled via an app on your phone.

Feel Sexy For You, Not Anyone Else

The idea that women should only buy sexy lingerie when they’re planning on someone else seeing it is stupid. The feeling of confidence, sexiness and put together-ness when you’re wearing a matching set under your clothes is a feeling women know all too well but it just never seems to happen in day-to-day life. For Valentine’s Day, make the effort to hunt out a matching set, or indulge in a new pair (like this ADORABLE co-ord from Farmers in a perfect, confidence-inducing red, and with just enough lace so you don’t feel like a doily).

Give Yourself a Present *Buy My Own Diamonds and I Buy My Own Rings…*

F*** it – if you want something and you can afford it, this week is the time to get it – and for me it’s the Dyson Air Wrap. She’s an expensive wee thing, but considering all the money I’ve spent on damaged hair in my life, it’s worth finding a store with Afterpay and grabbing this bad boy – and I know my hair will thank me! The Air Wrap only uses air combined with a little heat, leaving your hair shiny and healthy, which is clutch if you’re styling your locks everyday. Oh, and it’s currently available in a limited-edition Valentine’s Day red (ah, there’s the excuse I was looking for).

When In Doubt, Tim Tams

Of course if that grand plan ends up being a pipe dream, a packet of trusty Tim Tams is a lot cheaper – and still brings a tonne of happiness. They’ve just released four new flavours, and one of them is a very Valentine’s-appropriate Moreton Bay Raspberry and Dark Chocolate.

Mask Up – No, Not That Kind of Mask

Glow Recipe - WATERMELON SLEEPING MASK

The word mask has really lost its lustre, hasn’t it? Take your mind off the other kind for a few minutes and indulge in one of our favourite face masks, Glow’s Watermelon Sleeping Mask. Be productive when you sleep (win) or while you’re watching a movie with this delicious-smelling formula (if you don’t like watermelon, this is not the mask for you!) that’ll smooth, brighten and protect your skin.

A Pick-Me-Up If You Need A Little Reassurance

Sometimes, Valentine’s Days just suck (trust us at Capsule when we say we’ve collectively experienced this MANY times). But thanks to our vast experience at single-ness, we are very qualified to recommend Catherine Gray’s The Unexpected Joy of Being Single. Author Catherine took a year off dating to write her funny, honest and optimistic book that really explains a few things you need to know. Trust us – read it.

You Didn’t Expect Us To Not Include a Candle, Did You?
