Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 11th Gen 16GB

I used to be seriously against owning or gifting a Kindle – I thought half the magic in reading a book was turning the pages of an actual book. Then I bought a Kindle and realised how wrong I had been. They’re so easy to use, so easy to read (thanks to the fact you can alter the text side, dim or brighten the backlight, change the colour – there’s so many choices!), so easy to carry around and so easy to keep track of your place. They also cut down on clutter – who has room to keep 1,000 books? Who has the heart to biff their favourite books out?

A Kindle makes a great gift for avid readers – and, if you’re worried that buying one of these will mean your normal gift go-to of a book will be off the cards, that’s not the case! You can buy them a book download instead!

The Art of Winning, by Dan Carter

A great option for any sports mad dads, Dan Carter’s new book came out in July, so if you know he didn’t get this one for Father’s Day, this could be the perfect gift. The former All Black has written about ’10 Timeless Truths’ and about the book, he says: “You might think success at the highest level insulates you from pressure and doubt. But nothing could be further from the truth. In this book, I take you inside a journey that has forced me to look inwardly in a way I’ve never had to before. It’s been challenging, frustrating, rewarding and left me full of gratitude. Whether you’re a business looking to work on your culture, a leader on a steep learning curve, a person navigating change in their life or just someone of any age trying to get that little bit better every day, I hope that my experience can spur you on to greater heights, and master the art of winning.”

If the man in your life does a lot of travelling, then this is the perfect gift – it’s the best carry-on luggage on the market. It’s stylish and sleek, whilst very functional. Designed to hold the maximum amount that’s allowed inside the cabin with you, it weighs 3.4kg. It has an ejectable battery that is approved for flying across all major airlines, so you can keep your devices charged at all times. The case itself is designed to be unbreakable – made of 100% aerospace-grade German polycarbonate, it has a unique curved eggshell design that minimises damage and optimises function. Better still, it features SilentMove 360° spinner wheels. Extremely quiet, they can handle the cobblestones of Europe, and have a lifetime guarantee.

One Day Knife Making Course

Look, I really don’t get it and – I’m sorry Artisan School of Lost Arts, but this does not sound like my idea day out – BUT, I concede that this would be the perfect gift for many of the men I know. Essentially, it’s a workshop where you get to make your own very cool knife to take home. The perfect knife is a great gift – but, if you’re like me and have heard that superstition saying you should never gift a knife because it will sever your relationship, this is a great way around that!

Workshops start at 8:00am in Clevedon and go all day through till 5:30pm. The day will take your loved one from designing their knife, through to grinding the blade, heat treatment, gluing/profiling their handle, polishing and sharpening the blade ready for use. Morning tea, a farmhouse style lunch and afternoon tea are all provided and they welcome everyone from beginners to those who know their way around tools well.

The Artisan School of Lost Arts: One Day Knife Making Course, $425

Dyson V15s Detect SubmarineTM

If you’re looking to splurge – and also personally benefit from the gift you’re buying – then this is just the ticket. Yes, this one is a serious splurge, but, it’s also incredible. Dyson is the leading brand in cordless vacuums for a very good reason: they’re seriously powerful, and easy to use. Plus, they make this really satisfying little sound every time you turn them off – it’s this little boing sound, that I can’t fully explain to you but if you’ve ever used one, it makes you want to keep using it.

Anyhoo, this latest version is their best yet because you can also use it on your hard floors for any spills you have in there – yip, if you spill sauce, cream, milk, whatever in there, you can use the Dyson Submarine.

Using a combination of hydration, absorption and extraction technologies, the Dyson Submarine takes hard floors to the next level of clean. The motor-driven microfibre roller removes spills, tough stains and debris, whilst a durable plate extracts contaminated water from the wet roller and deposits it into a separate waste-water tray for easy emptying.

Lego – Home Alone

If your partner has ever bought a Lego set under the guise that it’s for the kids, and then spent the afternoon creating it themselves – it’s time to embrace the fact that Lego isn’t just for youngsters and get them a project they will love! Lego now has an extensive range for adults, but this Home Alone project is our favourite and PERFECT for Christmas.

With just shy of of 4,000 pieces (Lego’s largest to date), it’s recommended for those 18+ (patience is definitely required). But this one is seriously cool – it has INSANE detail, and includes everything you need to recreate SO many scenes from the movie. There is everything you need to stage Kevin’s fake Christmas party, a basement furnace with a LEGO light brick, iron-drop function, swinging paint cans, collapsible shelves, zip line from the attic to the tree house and more. Each level of the house is detachable, and the walls and roof open up for easy access.

You won’t know how handy these little stones are until they’re tucked safely away in your (their) freezer. They’re great for a whisky of course (and they don’t dilute your beverage) but they’re also lovely for your rosé or in a sparkling water during the hot summer months.

Whisky Chillers (from Shut the Front Door), $29.99

Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with Official MagSafe Charging

As a new Apple Watch convert (my GOD it’s changed my life – Kelly) the only thing that annoys me is the plethora of charging cables that snake under my bedside table. If your dad has the same problem with a watch, AirPods and of course a phone, this little baby is the answer to his prayers (and might mean things actually get charged!). This Belkin wireless charger charges devices 33% faster (I can attest to this after forgetting to charge my watch on more than one occasion but am totally determined to #closetherings) and you can charge your phone in portrait or landscape – perfect if you’re watching something at the same time.
