Merry Christmas!! Okay, today can be wonderful and magical, but we know it can also be A LOT. Need a breather? A moment of happy cheer? We’ve got you.
We’ve made it. It’s Christmas Day. Santa’s arrived and it’s fabulous – and yes, at least one thing has probably gone pear-shaped today, but we’re here. We made it through. We made it through the stress of December (mad respect to anyone who attempted to get a park at Sylvia Park this week). But yes, you might still be feeling some stress (tricky family Christmas dynamics have a way of doing that).
So, if you’ve locked yourself away for a moment (or stepped outside like Ben Affleck and developed a mad urge to take up smoking), here’s a little moment to get some calm, warm fuzzies to take the edge off.

At any other time of the year, I’d suggest you watch some videos of little baby goats wearing pyjamas jumping around (yes, this is its own genre now), but it’s Christmas, so let’s have a moment to unwind and destress by watching great and adorable festive videos instead. (But please, do just watch the goats here if anything Christmassy makes you feel antsy).
The Rock Sings Christmas Songs in a Festive Onesie…
Unfortunately his movies are nearly always trash (if you have ever tried to make it through Skyscraper I feel confident you won’t come at me for saying this) but there is something so loveable about The Rock, that I will (nearly) always try to get onboard with what he’s doing.
And after seeing this video of him singing on Kelly and Michael on Christmas Eve in 2014, I vote we just give the man his own talkshow. Please enjoy…
WestJet’s Christmas Miracle
Feel like having a little Christmas cry? In 2013 Canadian airline WestJet made this little video that quickly went viral and has now been viewed 50 million times.
The company got into the festive spirit by installing a booth at the gate for two very lucky flights. The 250 passengers thought they were just taking part in your regular cutesy ‘let Santa know what you want for Christmas’ fun, until they touched down and went to baggage claim…
SNL’s ‘Best Christmas Ever’
Oh Christmas, it’s always just like something out of a Hallmark Christmas Movie, isn’t it?? Alas, in actual fact, many Christmases instead involve an outrageously early start, an unrelenting headache and a full-on day in the kitchen, on the road, and holding it together until you can have a stiff drink, tucked up in bed.
This 2018 SNL skit with Matt Damon and Cecily Strong captures the feeling perfectly (and hilariously)…
Love, Actually‘s Arrivals Gate Scene
This movie gets me every damn time, straight away, with this arrivals gate scene.
It was shot at Heathrow Airport using real life folks greeting their loved ones, and in every survey about the film most people say it’s the absolute best bit. In 2017 Heathrow even ran a special promotion where if you were unable to pick up your loved one from the airport in the days before Christmas, you could nominate for Martine McCutcheon (who played Natalie in the film) to instead run up and give them a hug to welcome them home. It’s worth a watch here .
But, nothing beats the Love, Actually original. If you don’t have time to watch the whole movie, here’s the scene below!
Excitable Edgar
OTT Christmas ads are basically the UK’s equivalent of Super Bowl ads in the US. They’re of epic proportions, and choosing just one to watch is damn near impossible, because there are SO many good ones.
If you haven’t seen Monty The Penguin (2014) give that a whirl, The Long Wait (2011) or Man on The Moon (2015) – all for retailer John Lewis, start there.
Otherwise, jump to their 2019 ad, ‘Excitable Edgar’
Christmas Carpool Karaoke
This one is slightly controversial because it’s a festive singalong with James Cordon and SO many of his guests (Adele, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Chris Martin, Gwen Stefani and more) to Mariah’s hit, All I Want For Christmas.
This is controversial stuff on Capsule, where our biggest argument is around whether The Pogues’ Fairytale of New York or Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas is the best festive song of all time.
I respect we have our differences, but also, could you ever do this with The Pogues’ song and feel good about it?
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
