Ad – Capsule x Appliances Online
Guys, this partnership with Appliances Online is bad for our bank balance… Kelly Meharg gives you a little highlight reel of some of their coolest items she’s found during her scrolling
Does anyone else go through stages of online window shopping where, for a month or two, you’ll be exclusively coveting fancy fashion then all of a sudden it’s home stuff and then bed linen and then it goes back round again?
Just me? Didn’t think so.
Your order and items du jour might be a little different, but for all of us gals who love a virtual mooch we have an ever-growing wish-list on our notes app operating at all times.
But for me, as soon as Capsule began working with Appliances Online, New Zealand’s newest online appliance retailer (yeah I know, didn’t really have to explain what they do did I), the notes app wish-list suddenly got a hell of a lot longer. The selection is bloody huge, they have what they’ve dubbed ‘legendary service’ which basically means someone will actually help you when you call them (24/7, thank you very much) and for those of you who live in Auckland you get next-day delivery too (I tested it and it is quiiiick!).
They also remove your old appliances and all the packaging for you (your wheelie bin thanks you) and they’ll price-match anything so you know you’re getting the best deal possible.
My husband and I are actively looking to buy our first home (wish us luck, gah) so sure, I’m a little premature to the ‘let’s buy cool shit for the house’ game but I also have famously little patience or impulse control when it comes to buying. I just love a cosy, chic, organised home.
So you best believe I’ve been scouring Appliances Online for inspo and ideas for the future casa Meharg and here are the top 10 things I’m coveting (ok fine I’ve already bought one).
1. KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer

I’ve already written about my Appliances Online experience and how, after almost a decade on the wish list, this little baby was finally added to cart and genuinely can’t tell you how happy it has made me. I’ve whipped stuff, I’ve kneaded stuff, I’ve shredded stuff, I’ve mixed stuff. I adore both the practicality and the look of this mixer (anyone who says they didn’t buy it for the aesthetics is lying, come on) and I’m so jazzed that such an iconic brand such as KitchenAid is available on Appliances Online (they also price match so you know you’re getting the best deal possible, and with the next-day delivery you have almost instant gratification and I LOVE that).
2. Sunbeam Café Barista Coffee Machine

Coffee is my lifeblood and soul in the morning and I know most Kiwis feel the same – I really like this Sunbeam model because it’s a no-fuss beginner’s machine for anyone who is a bit intimidated by the bigger barista models, it’s chic and small enough to fit into any space-limited kitchen and it’s somehow almost $200 cheaper than RRP?!
3. Bosch French Door Fridge with Plumbed Ice and Water Brushed Black Steel

God you know you’re getting older when fridges like this jazz you. But come ON, LOOK AT HER! I don’t know why but for some reason a double-door fridge that gives you both water and ice is, for me, the absolute peak of luxury and fanciness and every time my husband goes to make me a martini (I know, talk about peak luxury) and we’re out of ice, this fridge jumps to the top of my ‘one day’ shopping list (you can even boost ice production by 30% during busy times!? So… every Friday night!?). This is going right to my new house mood board, especially since Appliances Online remove your old stuff and recycle it for free, so I don’t have to worry about a random fridge taking up space in the driveway for nine months until we’re finally motivated to call the council inorganic dudes.
4. Westinghouse Kettle and Toaster Set in White

I am in desperate need of a new kettle and toaster set because, although they have served me well from my flatting days through to my dating days, my little Anko numbers are very much on their way out (I’m getting very sick of the half-toasted toast, I work hard, I deserve full toasted toast). I like the design and simplicity of this set and I reckon it would work in almost any Kiwi kitchen – it comes in black, too. And for $139 for both, it’s a bloody steal.
5. Dimplex Ritz White Portable Electric Fire Heater

I’m a millennial girl in my mid-30’s, my life’s mission now is to be warm and cosy. This seems to tick all the boxes, especially if you’re not lucky enough to have a real fire in your home – I’m sorry Stephen Fleming et.all heat pump spokespeople, but they just don’t have the same vibe to them, do they. This bad boy gives you the cosy ambience of a wood wire without, you know, fire.
6. JBL Party Box On-the-Go Portable Speaker with Lights and Wireless Mic

I’m a millennial girl in my mid-30’s, my life’s mission now is to sing Pink Pony Club on repeat without care of who will hear me (while also being warm and cosy). This speaker is, of course, a fab speaker for all occasions, but pair it with the wireless mic and you’ve got your own karaoke at home set up and I apologise now to all my neighbours, my husband and my friends who will be forced to sit through a deeply uncomfortable one-woman show. Oh, it also has a bottle opener. Better living, everyone.
7. Kalona Kauai Three Seater Sofa

I had NO idea that Appliances Online offered furniture and I was even more surprised to see the literal couch of my dreams on there and I’m tempted to just buy it now with the hope it’ll fit in whatever tiny Auckland house we end up in. I’d love it for my home office for sure – but it’s that perfect, chic neutral cool-girl aesthetic I aspire to have but never seem to pull off. Gotta start somewhere, right?
8. Mobel Rise Electric Height Adjustable Desk

I have an electric adjustable desk already and I’ve popped this one on this list because I adore mine – I even wrote about my standing desk/ walking pad experience recently and it’s been a game-changer. This cute black and neutral option would be the ideal at-home edition if you WFH a few days a week, or if you have lots of different people who use the same desk for homework or crafts and need different height options.
9. Everdure by Heston Blumenthal Everdure Gass BBQ

Look, I know not everything in this world needs to be ‘feminised’ – I hate that I was once given a pink hammer when a normal one would have done the trick and it makes me wild that razor companies make you pay more for the same razor, but it’s just packaged differently. But let’s be honest, this BBQ is literally the most chic and good-looking one I have ever seen and I am HERE for it. Look at it! This would be the perfect addition to a stylish deck set up.
10. Fisher & Paykel Washer-Dryer Combo

You can tell this list was written on an awful rainy Auckland day where there is a snowball’s chance in hell of my washing drying on the rack. Washer-dryer combos have had a bad rap for a while, but this one has wildly good ratings, is cheaper than buying the two separate units and saves precious space in our tiny homes, which is a great thing because apparently, according to my house-hunting experiences, we don’t believe in laundries anymore?
Ok great, that’s the cool stuff, but how does Appliances Online actually work?
Appliances Online is a new player in New Zealand but are huge across the ditch and basically they are all about reducing time, stress and mental load when it comes to buying new stuff for the house.
You can buy all the usual top brands of fridges, washing machines, ovens, small appliances, coffee machines, BBQ’s, furniture and more.
The biggest difference, however, is what happens when you do purchase your new appliance. Appliances Online offer their legendary service which includes free next-day delivery which, itself, is fabulous. (Available Auckland, Whangārei, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua & Taupō). But they also provide basic connections of appliances AND they take away your old products for free. They also recycle them and the packaging from your new appliance which is lovely, and there is 24/7 support available on the phone if you need some advice, place your order over the phone or if something’s not working the way it should.
