The Love Diaries: ‘I Thought I Found My Dream Man on a Dating App, Until He Confessed This…’

If you’ve ever had a bad Tinder date, you’ll no doubt be able to sympathise with this week’s writer. See, the date itself was actually great, but soon, she discovered all wasn’t quite what it seemed with the man she thought might be ‘the one’.

Welcome to our series, The Love Diaries – a space for you to share your experiences, advice, fairy-tale endings, setbacks and heartbreaks. We’ll be hearing from industry experts giving practical advice alongside Capsule readers (You!) sharing your firsthand experiences with love – from the woman who cheated on her husband with a work colleague, one woman’s temptation now the love of her life is finally single (although she’s not), and the woman who forced her husband to choose between her and his girlfriend.

This week we check in with a story from a guest writer at 9Honey who shares a quite shocking first date!

I went on a date with a guy I matched with on Tinder. His name was Thomas and he was just… everything! He was even better in real life and that’s really saying something because the photos attached to his profile were incredible. He had the most amazing smile, perfect hair, he was tall and handsome in every way you could imagine.

Even better, he had the most gorgeous personality. He was a gentleman, he made me laugh, he kept complimenting me – I couldn’t believe my luck! Our first date was magical and ended with a passionate kiss outside my front gate. I didn’t want to invite him inside just yet.

He texted me to tell me he couldn’t wait to see me again! He called the next day to ask how I was, and to invite me out for dinner. He said he couldn’t wait to kiss me again.

What was happening? This was just beyond my expectations of a perfect man! He picked me up at exactly the time he said he would (I’ve had bad experiences with men being very late or just not turning up at all!) We had a great dinner, a walk on the beach and then another passionate kiss. This time I did invite him inside and let’s just say the sex was fantastic.

He organised another date the following night – more great sex – and said that he was already developing feelings for me. I said the same back to him and we literally fell asleep that night in each other’s arms. I haven’t had anything as amazing as this happen to me for a long time. I’d been single for three years and feeling like there were no good men left.

But a week later, he told me something that rocked my world. He said he’d also dated another woman around the same time he first met me and that he was still seeing her. I couldn’t believe it! He said he will have to make a choice soon as he can’t be sleeping with two women at the same time – he told me that he hadn’t slept with the other woman, he’d only slept with me.

I felt absolutely gutted. Was he telling me the truth? Or was he also sleeping with that other woman and telling her that he wasn’t sleeping with me? Or maybe he hadn’t told the other woman about me. It was really messing with my brain.

We had another great date and even though I told myself not to sleep with him, I did. It was such a beautiful night together, I thought, there is no way he is going to choose the other woman.

But the next day he came over and broke it to me – he’d realised he had a stronger connection with the other woman and he was going to focus on her now. I was so shocked I didn’t know what to say, although I did ask him to leave. I was very polite. He wished me all the best and that was the last time I ever saw him, or heard from him again.

I’m still looking for my perfect man but next time I will be so careful about who I give my heart to.
