Need a pick-me-up? Something to fill your tank? SO/ Auckland’s Key to the City deal is back and if you’re looking for a staycation Auckland hotel deal, this one is full of decadent extras!
She’s been a long winter – one where I feel like I’ve seen our family’s GP more than my most of my friends. Like me, you are likely now hanging out for spring and summer!
But, as excited as I am about it being September – I know what’s ahead and if I’m going to get through the busy end of year months, I need to start filling up my tank.
If you’re a woman living on this planet in 2026, it’s likely you need to do the same?
At the top of my to-do list each day, I’ve started adding something to look after myself in there too: maybe it’s a 15-minute meditation, going for a quick bush walk, meeting a friend for a quick coffee – whatever it is, at this time of the year it’s becoming a non-negotiable.
But, sometimes you need more than just a little mini-moment in your day to really fuel your tank.
Enter the much-needed night away. An Auckland staycation without the kids.
The Key to The City
Okay, this is perhaps the perfect deal to go with if you need a little TLC.
SO/ Auckland offers this exclusive little package where when you check into your room you get handed a literal little golden key that unlocks deals around the city. From dining options, or bars through to retail, spas and beauty, you can build your own little itinerary, making the most of the deals that speak to you along the way.
AND to make the whole thing really stress-free, the package includes complimentary valet parking (the dream in the CBD) plus breakfast for two in Harbour Society.
Here’s how my dream little getaway went:
3pm: Check into SO/ Auckland
SO/ Auckland is right in the thick of the action on Custom Street – an easy stroll from Waitematā Station on the new CRL. Or, you can drive on in and not have to worry about parking, because valet parking is covered with this deal! A dream in the CBD!
Speaking of dreamy, the rooms at SO/ Auckland are spacious and gorgeous – they feature deep baths and huge comfy beds. Head over here to read a full review of the rooms!
7pm: Dinner at TacoTeca
I have long been a fan of this delicious Mexican eatery, tucked away in City Works Depot. It’s run by two couples, with Edmundo Farrera (who formerly ran La Fuente) running the front of house and beverages, and Chef Jean Brito helming the kitchen. The food is heavenly – and if you’re gluten-free like me, you’re in luck: the majority of the menu is naturally just gf.
With the Key to the City deal, taco’s are just $7 a pop. I go for my personal fave, the Baja Fish (battered fried fillet, slaw, chipotle mayo, pickled onion) and the Smoky Cabbage (charred cabbage, peanut dressing & salsa macho – it’s surprisingly delicious!), while my husband gets a Governor Prawn (Prawn, romesco, melted cheese and pickled onion) and the Campechano (grilled beef sirloin, chorizo, nopales, onion, coriander and salsamole), plus the Baja Fish once he saw how delicious it is.
We also ordered the Tortilla Soup (a tomato-based soup, with chicken, onion, halloumi, sour cream and crunchy tortillas) which we are definitely going back for – I have thought about most days since we went. I asked Edmundo for his recommendation on a margarita and he steered me perfectly towards a Malinche (Motel Mezcal, lime, black salt, agave). It was… heavenly.
9pm: Margaritas at HI-SO Rooftop Bar
After dinner we headed back down to SO/, taking the elevator up to the 16th floor to HI-SO Rooftop Bar, which serves up skyline views and a darn good marg, which you can unlock for $20 with the Key to the City deal.
9am: Breakfast at Harbour Society
After a beautiful nights’ sleep, with no one screaming “muuuuu-uuuuum” or “daaaaa-aaaaad” at 5.30am, we woke up without an alarm – a true luxury. We rolled upstairs for a buffet breakfast at Harbour Society, which has one of the most stunning views in Auckland, offering endless views. There’s a huge buffet selection, plus à la carte hot dishes, fresh‑pressed juices you can make yourself, heaps of gluten‑free options and good barista coffee.
11am: Skinsmiths B12 Hydrating Facial (with a 15-minute LED Add-on)
When you make a booking and let them know you’ve got the Key to the City deal (make sure you call up in advance!) you get a complimentary 15-minuted LED light therapy add-on. It is an extra 15 mins of bliss. Yes, yes, we’re starting to get a little more sun out there every now and then, but my LED light therapy session felt like I was transported to lying on the beach in Hawaii (and without having to watch any children! Bliss!).
12.30pm: A Little Retail Therapy at TUESDAY, Ponsonby
I arrived at TUESDAY and was immediately asked for the exact details of what I had done at Caci and what they needed to ask for to get this glowy skin I was apparently now rocking after my appointment.
There, I meet Biddie, the founder and designer behind TUESDAY who has grown a career spanning more than 20 years which is built on on her heart-felt love for fashion. Biddie understands the transformative power of a great outfit – when we feel good, we have the confidence to take on the world. She’s all about not saving things for a special occasion – she champions women to wear what they feel their best in, every day. It’s TUESDAY, just wear the dress!
I feel like I’m having my own fashion-montage movie-moment with Biddie as I pick out a stack of items (as well as a few of her suggestions) and pop out of the curtain to get her applause. I leave with a gorgeous rich brown knit – and a wishlist of about seven other items. Plus, thanks to the Key to the City Deal, after spending $250, I get to take home a free TUESDAY gift valued at $99.
