Got a bunch of leftover hot cross buns? Before you chuck them in the bin – or just eat ’em stale! – here’s three delicious recipes to turn them into something entirely new and delicious.

While it’s highly unlikely you won’t have already eaten all your hot cross buns by Easter Monday, the deluge of Easter treats mean’s it is possible there’ll be some languishing in the bread bin.

But if they’re past their best, you don’t need to throw them out. There are plenty of ways you can use them to concoct something tasty.

Here are three of our favourite recipes to use up your hot cross buns.

Hot Cross Bun Bread and Butter Pudding

A delicious way to use up hot cross buns is to make bread and butter pudding with them.

All you have to do is tear the buns into chunks.

You can then add eggs, milk, butter and sugar.

Recipe Tin Eats, who claims her recipe is “the ultimate use of leftover bread” uses three eggs, 375ml low of full fat milk, 250ml cream, 40g unsalted butter and 100g white sugar.

Add a teaspoon of cinnamon powered and vanilla extract.

Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F.

Then mix the wet ingredients and allow the bread – or in this case buns – to soak in it for a few minutes.

Pop it in a baking dish and drizzle more butter on the top.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden but still “jiggly”.

Hot Cross Bun Air Fryer Toastie

If you’re embracing the air fryer craze, you can use it to revamp you leftover hot cross buns.

Jamie Oliver recommends halving the bun and lightly buttering it.

Then grate 30g of your favourite cheese over each half.

Heap on a teaspoon of a condiment such as such as piccalilli, Branston pickle, mango chutney.

If you like you can even add pickles.

Pop each half in the fryer at 180°C for six minutes.

French Toast Hot Cross Bun Fingers

This recipe, from Coles, is one of the easiest.

It recommends using day-old buns.

Cut them into finger slices.

Then whisk two eggs, 80ml of milk 2tbsp thickened cream and 1tbsp caster sugar in a bowl.

Melt half of 20g butter in a pan.

Then toss the bread fingers in the egg mixture before adding.

Cook for up to a minute on each side, until golden brown.
