Already Missing The White Lotus? Here’s What We Know (And Are Speculating) About Season 3!

It only ended last night, but we already have a great big White Lotus shaped hole in our hearts and are now desperate to know any facts about the show and ANYTHING about The White Lotus 3. Here’s what we know, and what we’re speculating!

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t watched all of Series 2, do not read any further! (Also, what are you doing?! Get thee to Neon or Sky Go now and binge it all!)

While we commiserate the ending of the series – and our worst case scenario come true: Tanya floating face down in the ocean, all we wanna know is A) Will Tanya’s ghost please be able to come back and haunt Greg in the next series and B) What is actually going to happen next season and C) WHEN WILL IT COME OUT?

Word is, we can expect another series by the end of next year – and, for our other qs, here’s what we’ve been able to find out and dream up:

Where is it gonna go down?

Okay, so we’ve had Hawaii, and most recently Europe, so it’s unlikely we’re going to see a repeat of location – which Mike White, the creator has confirmed.

“I think it’d be fun to maybe go to a whole different continent. You know, we did Europe, and maybe Asia, something crazy like that, that would be fun,” he told Deadline in October 2022.

He doubled down on Asia after the finale, saying in HBO Max’s Unpacking S2 E7 special that the third instalment miiiiight be in Asia and focus on “death and Eastern religion and spirituality.”

“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” he said. “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”

Personally, I’m imagining India, buuuut, did Cam give away the next destination in the final episode? He said that next year the crew should go to the Maldives (yes, in Asia!). “More scuba, less pasta” I believe he said.

If so, would this mean there would be a carry forward of characters, like we had from Season 1 to Season 2 with Tanya? Maybe Daphne (yaaay!) would finally leave Cam (boo, hisss!) and the series could focus on her and Harper’s shenanigans (the dream duo).

WHO will be in Season 3?

Like we just speculated, could it be some combination of the Harper/Ethan/Daphne/Cam crew? Surely the four of them couldn’t all go on – it feels like much of that storyline has been exhausted – but a surviving duo or single character could be compelling.

Otherwise, my personal speculation is that Laura Dern could be a main character in season 3. Sounds completely leftfield? Not quite!

See, when Dominic De Grasso – he was the dad in the inter-generational De Grasso family sandwich – was getting berated by his wife on the phone, that wife was voiced by none other than the wonderful Laura Dern. HOW GOOD would she be in a White Lotus series?! Will she travel to India/Thailand/The Maldives for a post-divorce holiday? Or a final make-or-break holiday with her husband, Dominic? God I hope so.

And, we have reason to be hopeful. Mike White says he’d love to see Dominic and his wife have a romantic reunion together.

He recently said: “Who knows, maybe there’ll be another White Lotus season where Dominic comes with his wife and they patch it all up!” White said.

“I don’t want to think about it too much, because the idea of that makes me so happy. I don’t want to be disappointed… I would want nothing more than that. I just loved working with Mike [Imperioli] so much.”

The De Grasso men (that’s Dominic on the left – remember him from The Sopranos??? SO GOOD)

Otherwise, there could be an obvious contender for season 3 who has so far been in both season 1 and 2 and is still alive… god damn Greg.

Will Greg – heartbroken from losing his cowboy lover, but filfthy rich from inheriting his wife’s billions AND not having to split it with anyone – jet off to Asia to spend his dirty money? Although, he may have one person in his thoughts (besides Tanya haunting him, which obviously would be a very Tanya thing to do) – the one person who could tie him back to the untimely death of his wife: Portia. Could Portia and Greg feature in Season 3? Might Portia want to avenge Tanya? Or just be happy to no longer have the boss from hell?

Will Portia keep her head in the sand, or will curiosity get the better of her?

Mike White is keeping us guessing: When asked about Portia potentially wanting answers about what happened that night, he said:

“It’s possible that Portia is scared enough to just leave it alone, but the fact that all of those guys die on the boat, it feels like there’s gotta be somebody who’s gonna track it down to Greg. But maybe you’ll have to wait to find out what happens.”

Lastly, we could see someone from Season 1 return – perhaps the wonderful Connie Britton (she played Nicole Mossbacher who had a high-powered job at Goop). Can’t you just see Nicole running a Goop-style corporate wellness retreat in India (we’re already wincing at the thought). Early this year she said:

“[White] wanted me to be in the second season, and there was an idea that I loved for the character. A piece of casting didn’t work in the second season and we’re hoping to [do] that in the third season. I would love to see a spin-off on every character in that show.”
