Solo travel is becoming more popular in recent years, with #solotravel gathering over four billion views on TikTok. So where are the best spots to go on your own? Where are the hot spots for 2023? We’ve got the answers…
Global adventure travel company, Explore Worldwide, has analysed two years’ worth of search data to compile a list of the world’s top emerging destinations for solo travel.
The search data reveals that Asian cities are taking some of the top spots for the trending solo destinations this year.
Ben Ittensohn, Regional Director Australia and New Zealand at Explore Travel, says their booking data shows that “Europe is of huge interest to Australian solo travellers, so it’s fascinating to see cities like Hanoi, Bangkok and Taipei emerging as solo hotspots among the wider travel community.”
“There’s a real sense of Carpe Diem at the moment, with travellers choosing to seize the day and take that longed-for adventure rather than waiting for friends or family to join them”, Ittensohn says.
“There is a wide world waiting to be explored, and we hope our study inspires more people to embark on their own solo adventures.”
Here, we reveal which global cities are sparking the most interest for solo travellers in 2023, with the Interest increase percentage based on yearly Google search increases.
15. Manila
Starting off the list is the Philippines capital, Manila.
This metropolis is a mix of modern architecture with a mesmerizing skyline and historic monuments from when the city was under Spanish rule.
A highlight is visiting the Intramuros which has old dungeons and gunpowder rooms from the colonial era.
14. Nice
Located on the French Riviera, Nice blends vibrant street life with oceanside tranquility.
Talk a walk down the cobblestone street of the Old Town to explore the city’s markets and pastel buildings.
13. Melbourne
Victoria’s capital, Melbourne, is a culturally rich and vibrant city.
Head to Lygon Street for some delicious Italian food or pop in to Federation Square to visit an art exhibition or have a front row view to the iconic Flinders train station.
12. Zurich
Situated in picturesque Northern Switzerland, Zurich is a beautiful lakeside city with a waterside promenade.
