THE ONE THING… You Should Check This Year, That Could Have a Massive Positive Impact on Your Health (According to Dr Libby)

Samsung s25 Post

Let's be friends!

The books we're reading, the vibrators we're using, the rants we're having and more in our weekly EDM.

Before you fork out serious cash for the latest fad wellness product (that’s likely being rammed down your throat on social media right now for the New Year) – Dr Libby wants you to stop and first get a blood test to check this one thing. It’s easy to fix, if you’re not where you should be, but it could be having a massive effect on your health and energy levels!

Welcome to The One Thing! Every week we’re bringing you the one nugget of info that you need to know or didn’t know you needed to know! Whether it’s a tip to make your life a little easier, a pearl of wisdom, something to make you think, or maybe something to make you laugh, The One Thing is here to serve you every Friday!

If you’ve got a suggestion or submission for The One Thing – maybe something about the industry you work in that you think others should know! – please send your thoughts to alice@capsulenz.com. We’d love to hear from you!

It’s a New Year, and, if your Instagram algorithm is anything like mine, you’ve been (quite brutally?!?!) bombarded with ads for diet plans, workout plans, protein powders, collagen supplements, creatine amongst the slew of bizarre ‘new year, new you!’ messaging.

So, it’s important we note here, we’re not here trying to sell you something, or make you feel about yourself or give you something else to worry about. Nope, it’s more the opposite really – because before you go signing up for some new reset program or the latest fad wellness product, there’s something very easy to check on, that could be having a massive impact on how you’re feeling.

As Dr Libby explains, that One Thing, is your iron levels.

“Time and again, I’ve seen people doing all the ‘right’ things – eating well, exercising, sleeping more, taking supplements – yet still feeling flat, foggy, anxious or exhausted,” says Dr Libby. “Often, iron was the missing piece. Not just iron intake, but iron status.”

So, just why is our iron status so important to understand and stay on top of?

“Iron underpins energy, mood, cognitive function, immune and emotional resilience and hormonal health. When iron stores are low, the body is constantly playing catch-up and no amount of willpower or ice baths can override that biochemistry.

“So if I had to suggest one place to start next year, it would be here. Understand your iron status, not just whether you’re technically “in range”, but whether your levels are truly optimal for how you want to feel. When iron is supported first, everything else works better – energy elevates, motivation returns and the body finally has the capacity to respond to all the other wonderful steps you’re taking to enhance the quality of your life and those you love.”

Last year, after a decade of clinical observation, Dr Libby wrote the book Fix Iron First – it’s available to buy here.
