THE ONE THING… You Should Do to Take Care of Your Hair (Trust Me, It’s an ABSOLUTE Game Changer!)

Samsung s25 Post

Let's be friends!

The books we're reading, the vibrators we're using, the rants we're having and more in our weekly EDM.

Say goodbye to frizzy and tangled morning hair! This is the one thing you can wear to sleep that will help your hair stay healthy.

Welcome to The One Thing! Every week we’re bringing you the one nugget of info that you need to know or didn’t know you needed to know! Whether it’s a tip to make your life a little easier, a pearl of wisdom, something to make you think, or maybe something to make you laugh, The One Thing is here to serve you every Friday!

If you’ve got a suggestion or submission for The One Thing – maybe something about the industry you work in that you think others should know! – please send your thoughts to alice@capsulenz.com. We’d love to hear from you!

Waking up with tangled, dry, frizzy hair is never a great way to start your day.

Us busy folks already have a lot on, and it’s a chore to add at least 20 minutes to your morning routine just so you don’t look like you’ve just been run over by a stampede of horses.

I have thick, long and wavy hair, and when I say thick, not only do I have thick strands, but I also have lots of them. Look, I’m not complaining about this, but honestly, it sometimes feels like a blessing and a curse.

The maintenance does get awfully painful – and since I seem to love to toss and turn in my sleep, my hair is SO dry and tangled by the time I wake up!

It wasn’t until a girl friend introduced the silk bonnet to me that I realised I don’t have to keep living like this! (It felt truly revolutionary despite women using this as far back as the 18th century – or possibly even earlier.)

A silk bonnet isn’t just for folks with thick wavy hair like mine – it’s actually perfect for all hair types. Wearing it at night means you can wake up with smoother, silkier and tangle-free hair that oftentimes needs no styling!

Five Reasons Why You Should Get a Silk Bonnet

  1. Keeps your hair healthy and prevent more damage.

The friction against your pillow will lead to damage overtime which leads to split ends and frizzy hair. Wearing a silk bonnet will protect your hair from this, as your hair will glide on the silk overnight instead of it turning into knots.
  2. No more dry hair.

Unlike cotton, silk is a natural fibre that doesn’t suck out all your natural oils. Instead, it helps retain the moisture balance in your hair and keeps it hydrated.
  3. Hairstyles last longer.

Spent an entire morning curling or straightening your hair? Or maybe you pay heaps of money for extensions? A silk bonnet will make them last longer. You get your money’s worth and save time, while still looking fabulous!
  4. Waking up with tangle-free hair.

Need I say more? Imagine not having to comb through tangled hair every morning – what a luxury!
  5. Protects your skin.

If you’re also spending so much time and money into your skincare, you probably don’t want your hair to be the reason for breaking out. Since we don’t wash our hair everyday, it’s best to keep it away from our face!

Apart from all those amazing benefits, it’s also gives you (and your partner) a more restful sleep. The amount of times we’ve been woken up annoyed because my hair has somehow ended up in my mouth, up my partner’s nose, or trapped under his shoulder… honestly. A silk bonnet keeps the peace.

How it Works

Step 1: Twirl all your hair into a bun (No scrunchies or clips needed)

Step 2: Secure hair in the bonnet and tie it. It’s natural for the hair to just drop inside!

Step 3: Remove it in the morning and your hair will feel so smooth! (And be tangle-free!)

I haven’t really combed through the top bit yet so you can see how it looks right after I remove the bonnet. Look at those waves at the bottom though?! It would have taken me AGES to tame that in the morning before using the bonnet!

Should I Buy Silk or Satin?

Buying a 100% silk bonnet can be quite pricey, so you will find tons of cheaper satin options. Just do your research first to see what works best for your hair.

Silk will last longer as long as you care for it well, and like mentioned before, it’s a natural fibre. Satin isn’t – it’s a weave of various fibres, most commonly synthetic polyester or nylon.

My last piece of advice? If you can afford it, maybe stick to 100% silk bonnet.
