This week we check in with a story from a guest writer at 9Honey who shares her shocking tale

I had a very upsetting New Year’s eve that will live in my mind forever. I’d been hoping my partner Thomas would ask me to marry him. We’ve been living together for five years and together for nearly eight years. We’ve also been talking about starting a family soon. So, I logically thought that he’d want us to tie the knot soon. Or that’s what I was hoping for.

And I thought New Year’s eve would be the perfect moment. I was very ready to be married. I even bought some bridal magazines and spent ages looking at the pretty dresses. I had a chat with a wedding planner, just in case. But, most of all, I thought Thomas was in love with me and marriage was just the natural progression our relationship was going to take.

But, instead, I ended up feeling hurt and angry in a way I never imagined I could feel. It all started in the lead up to New Year’s eve – we had planned on going to a friends’ party nearby. But Thomas said he also had to go to a colleague’s party and partners weren’t invited. I found that very odd indeed but some of Thomas work colleagues are a bit strange so I just thought I should go with the flow.

Who wants to juggle two parties on New Year’s Eve? Not me. But I’ve always given Thomas a lot of freedom. We agreed that he would go to his work party first then I’d pick him up and we’d go to the next party; one that we’d both been invited to.

He told me where he was going and said I could meet him in the carpark after 45 minutes, as he didn’t intend to stay too long. His intention was to just “make an appearance.”

So I parked outside the pub where his work party was being held and waited in the car. When it got to an hour, I texted him to say I was here and waiting. He didn’t reply. I waited another 10 minutes and then thought I might as well just go in and grab him, as I was keen to go to the next party. I went inside and what I saw what just too shocking for words and I still haven’t gotten over it.

There was Thomas with his arm around a pretty young blonde woman. I stood in the distance watching them and, eventually he bent down and kissed her on the lips. They absolutely looked like a couple! I just stood there, feeling like a fool. I was tempted to just walk away and never talk to him again.

But instead, I went over to them and yelled at him. I called him some pretty harsh names. He was so shocked to see me and said that he could explain. But I didn’t want to hear his lies. The blonde lady just slinked away, I have no idea what happened to her, she probably didn’t want to get involved in the argument she could see that was about to happen.

How did it end? Well, we had a very heated conversation in my car where he admitted the blonde lady was his “office girlfriend” and he has been juggling two relationships. He also said his girlfriend thought that he had broken up with me. So, he was lying to both of us.

And I later found out his girlfriend and I both broke up with him on the same night. I feel like karma hit him very hard! I’m now happily single and not looking for a new boyfriend until I am emotionally available.
