The Love Diaries: ‘I Never Thought I Would Marry the Same Man TWICE, But Here I Am…’

A few weeks back we talked about getting back with an ex – thanks to the fact the Carrie and Aidan were giving it another shot on And Just Like That… Well, while we still don’t know the verdict for the pair, we’ve heard from one woman who has made it work. She’s married her husband… twice!

Welcome to our series, The Love Diaries – a space for you to share your experiences, advice, fairy-tale endings, setbacks and heartbreaks. We’ll be hearing from industry experts giving practical advice alongside Capsule readers (You!) sharing your firsthand experiences with love – from the woman who cheated on her husband with a work colleague, one woman’s temptation now the love of her life is finally single (although she’s not), and the woman who forced her husband to choose between her and his girlfriend.

I never thought I would marry the same man twice, but here I am. The first time Tyson and I were married, we were in our mid-20s and in love.

We had known each other since high school and had been dating for a few years. We were both excited to start our lives together and build a future.

However, as time passed, we started to grow apart. We had different ideas about what we wanted in life and our relationship became strained. I was suspicious he was cheating on me but he denied this.

I think I was just being paranoid or looking for reasons to end our relationship. Eventually, we decided to break up.

After our divorce, I moved on with my life and started dating other people. I got engaged to a man I thought was my true love but he left me for another woman and that really broke me for a while.

I always kept in touch with Tyson who was always my best friend. I didn’t want us to get back together, even though he told me he wanted us to try again.

I was determined to go on my own path because Tyson and I had spent so much of our youth together. It felt like breaking free and being a grown up at last. So I resisted his attempts to win me back.

But, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I still loved my ex-husband.

So, a few years later, we decided to give our relationship another try. And, this time around, things were different. We were both older and had learned from our past mistakes. We were more mature and able to communicate better. Our relationship was stronger than ever before.

We were both tested when Tyson was diagnosed with a serious illness and our relationship became strained again.

But, no matter how difficult things became, I couldn’t imagine my life without him. With him being so unwell, I was terrified that our love story might be coming to an end. But, as time passed, and he recovered, I started to value him more than ever.

We decided to officially get married again, six years after our divorce. We kept it very simple, with family and close friends. I only invited my supportive friends because there were some people in my life who told me I was crazy marrying him again.

It was the most beautiful day of my life. Marriage second time round has been amazing.

This time, we were older and wiser. We knew what we wanted and we were determined to make it work. We were more patient and understanding with each other and we were able to build a stronger and more loving relationship.

Looking back, I realise that our love story is not like most. It’s not a fairy-tale with a happy ending, but it’s definitely a story of loss, and ultimately, love again. I know that Tyson and I were meant to be together and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m grateful for the time we spent apart because it made us realise how much we truly loved and needed each other.

In a strange way, I’m also grateful for the mistakes we made because they taught us valuable lessons and brought us back together again.
