Pretty in Pink: Feel Good Purchases That’ll Also Be Doing Good This Month

October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month in NZ, so first of all, this is your official reminder to do a self examination – right now if you can!! If you’re not too sure exactly what you should be doing, head to the official Breast Cancer Foundation site for a full how-to – but please, do give it a go. The BCFNZ recently released info showing that 1 in 6 women under 45 NEVER check their breasts for changes – and 37% of women under 45 don’t know what to look for. It’s super duper important, so read up, and get checking – breast cancer certainly doesn’t just affect women over 45.

Now, besides doing your self-checks and reminding your friends/family to do theirs (and reminding those over 45 to get their mammogram done!), there are other ways we can support one another during October – including going shopping! We’ve put together a list of some of the local brands who are putting sizeable donations towards the BCFNZ for every purchase you make – it’s a win/win!

ghd Limited Edition “Take Control Now” Pink collection – Platimum+ Styler, Gold Styler Helios Profesional hairdryer. This year, for every pink limited-edition product sold in New Zealand, $20 is donated to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. Available now on www.ghdhair.com/nz

BCFNZ Boobead. For $5 pick up a Boobead from your local Farmers store – all proceeds go to the BCFNZ. They’re a great reminder to do self-checks, and the beads are a great guide to show you the size of lumps that are detectable by mammogram.

Griffens Pink Raspberry Mallowpuffs. Following the success of the Pink Raspberry Mallowpuffs last year, Griffin’s have brought them back again for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in October. Every pack of Pink Raspberry Mallowpuffs purchased will send 20cents to support the work of Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

Proven Winners’ gorgeous Bubblegum petunias are a great way to pink up your garden or containers this spring. With four shades of pink and a white to choose from, 50 cents from each plant sold goes to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. Available from garden retailers nationwide.
