Our top 5 list of places to stay on Waiheke Island no matter what kind of vibe you’re looking for!

A little getaway to Waiheke Island is ALWAYS a good idea – from spending your days flitting from vineyard to vineyard and enjoying the many beaches and restaurants, through to hiking the many walking tracks and simply sitting back and enjoying the stunning views, it’s the perfect place to unwind.

And if you’re getting up to all of that, it makes sense to stay on the island for a night or two to truly make the most of your experience. So here’s our top 5 list of best places to stay on Waiheke, no matter what you’re looking for (and check out booking.com for a full list!)

The Holiday Home – Circular Bay

Beachfront AND with a hot tub? We’re sold! Circular Bay sleeps six (three bedrooms) so it’s perfect for a friends or family holiday on the Waiheke. The décor is chic and modern with everything you’d need to self-cater a little getaway – but let’s be honest, you’ll be spending all of your time out on the deck with that view. Grab a few bottles of vino from the island’s famed vineyard, pop together a cheeseboard and enjoy! The only note for this property is that you’ll probably need to take your car over to really explore the island BUT, it’s super-close to one of Waiheke’s best wineries, Poderi Crisci.

The Apartment – The Sands Apartments

The Sands Apartments are right on Onetangi Beach (right on the bus route, so you’re fine to AT Hop your way around the island!) and once you’re there, you’ll feel like you’re on a remote Pacific Island, not still in Auckland. With stunning views, full kitchen and outdoor entertainment options – as well as communal BBQ facilities right outside your door, it’s a brilliant option for a relaxed, easy escape. Plus, you have the brilliant Ki Maha restaurant right down the road – trust us and take a visit!

The Bed and Breakfast – Kiwi House

You won’t get a better host than Kiwi House owner Tracy – she goes out of the way to make your stay warm, cosy and just like home! This bed and breakfast is the perfect spot to say if you’re wanting to stick around Waiheke’s main drag, Oneroa. Tracy puts on an epic breakfast every morning, keeps an absolutely spotless communal area (including delightful outdoor area) and has that magical ability to pop up when you need her, but not intrude on any privacy. it’s definitely one of the best places to stay on Waiheke!

The Luxury Option – Omana Luxury Villa

It doesn’t get much more luxe than this! From the sweeping views, high-end finishes, a bathtub you’d never want to get out of and a beautiful, private location, Omana is perfect for those special occasions or when you just want to be faaaancy. Breakfast, car rental and a private beach are also provided, making this the ideal spot for a romantic escape for two that you’ll never want to leave from (also, this property and the Sands Apartments are Travel Sustainable properties, so you can feel GREAT about booking).

The Budget Option – Island Breeze

Sometimes you don’t need fancy for the perfect Waiheke escape – you just need peace, quiet, and ok, an outdoor tub doesn’t hurt either! Island Breeze offers barbeques and free mountain bikes, and the location is close to Waiheke’s township, making your stay super convenient and hassle free.
